How many portable toilets do I need?
The math depends on your crew size and how long they're there. OSHA 1926.51(c)(1) says you need 1 toilet facility for 20 workers or fewer. From 20 up to about 200, add 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers. A construction crew of 30 people needs at least 2 units. An outdoor event with 100 guests for a day hits the same ratio differently than a two-week festival. Call with your numbers and we'll size it right. What's the difference between standard and deluxe?
A standard porta potty is a 60 to 70 gallon holding tank in a box about 44 by 48 inches on the ground, standing roughly 92 inches tall. It has a toilet seat, a urinal basin and a small sink with no running water. A deluxe flushable unit has a gravity-fed flush, a larger interior, and a hand sink with running water. Neither is heated. Neither has a shower. The deluxe costs more per day but it's closer to an actual bathroom. For a one-day event in La Crosse, standard runs $100 to $350 per day. Deluxe runs $85 to $1,200 per day depending on how many you rent. Pick deluxe if your crew stays all day or your guests expect real plumbing.
